On a visit to the island a number of years ago, we stayed at a lovely home on the water in the Sans Pareil area. While out exploring this lovely neighbourhood early one morning, my husband found an entrance into Rathtrevor Park which has become a weekly and almost daily walk for us. This magical seaside stroll is breathtaking with spectacular views out over the Straight of Georgia.
The loop takes under an hour to walk and and winds it’s way along the ocean until you come upon this beautiful beach area where the tide seemingly goes out for miles. Families and tourists can be found enjoying a picnic, flying kites, kicking around a soccer ball and beach combing looking for those treasured mementos to take home. I’m fascinated by a tree that resembles a dragon which roughly marks the halfway point of the loop.
An added bonus of this easy walking trek is stopping at the Black Goose Inn for some fish and chips and a Honey Dew Ale! This pet friendly pub has outdoor picnic tables where you can place your order inside and have it delivered to your table in a garden like atmosphere overlooking the ocean. Our fur baby loves this part of the walk. She patiently waits for her fair share.
This provincial park grounds is one of the prettiest I’ve seen and is abuzz with activity all summer but reverts back to the quiet sanctuary we locals enjoy all winter long.
