If you’re like my husband and I, we love finding new paths to take our little terrier Sidney and nice length loops are perfect. At just under 6 kilometres, Westwood Lake in Nanaimo is exactly that. A lovely easy walking path with the exception of a steep start that circles the lake and provides the perfect distance to give yourselves and your furry family member a nice workout. There are shorter loops towards the south end if you bring along your short two leggeds, although, it may be tough to entice them away from the beach located at the trailhead.
This trail is a nice option year round. The tall cedars provide shade in the summer and cozy shelter in the winter. Dogs must be kept on leash, however there is an off leash area at the far side of the lake.
As you come to the the end of your walk, you will come upon the Piccadilly Bistro where you can reward yourself with lunch, a snack or beverage. This restaurant offers amazing views of the lake and has a sunny patio A perfect relaxation spot. Located just off highway 19 down Jingle Pot, we highly recommend this wonderful spot.
