For me, Mondays are a great day to go for a hike and enjoy the numerous magical forest pathways. On Monday it’s quiet, children are back at school and the work week has begun for many, so apart from the seniors and retired folks, you often have the path to yourselves. The trails are varied and suit all age ranges and abilities. You can find a short loop that is just a couple of kilometres, or you can hike up a mountain that will provide the most seasoned hikers a satisfying workout. On most trails, if you pay close attention, you almost always come across something whimsical.
We took a drive out to the Tidal Taco Shack, one of our favourite lunch spots that serve up fresh fish tacos in Deep Bay and happened upon the Lighthouse Country Trail. The south loop is 2.5 kilometres and is wheelchair accessible while the North loop is 2 kilometres and both are easy walking.
It’s worth the short drive up the island highway to enjoy a quick bite sitting at the picnic tables overlooking the ocean and then working it off on this easy walking trail. This wasn’t the only forest surprise we came upon. I challenge you to visit this gem of a trail to see what you can find. Stay tuned, Top Bridge Trail is next!
